What is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding is a cosmetic treatment where your dentist bonds a tooth-coloured material to damaged or imperfect teeth to give them a corrected or more natural appearance.
Treating cosmetic dental issues goes beyond just making your teeth look better, it can also make them healthier. By filling gaps and imperfections in your teeth, our dentists can help prevent food and debris from getting trapped in difficult-to-clean areas, preventing the development of tooth decay and gum disease.
Uses For Dental Bonding
This cosmetic dental procedure is incredibly versatile and can not only make your teeth look better, but it can help strengthen and restore them as well. Bonding can do the following:
- Fill cavities and restore decayed teeth
- Fix discolouration and change the shape of a tooth
- Repair chips or cracks and close gaps between teeth
- Protect the tooth root from exposure from a receding gum line
The Bonding Process
Dental bonding typically requires only one visit to your dentist's office. The process can usually be completed in 30 to 60 minutes per tooth.
Your dentist will apply composite resin to your tooth in layers and use a high intensity curing light to harden each layer. After the last layer of composite resin is hardened, your dentist will shape and polish it to form your new tooth.
The finished tooth often looks quite natural and smooth and is can be closely matched to the surrounding teeth.
