What is Restorative Dental Care?
Restorative dental care includes a range of treatment options that aim to repair damage and prevent decay in teeth that have sustained trauma or developed cavities. If you are missing teeth, there are also restorative treatment options to replace them.
Damaged, decayed or missing teeth can have a negative impact on your oral health by contributing to the buildup of plaque and other debris, ultimately leading to additional tooth decay or gum disease.
Depending on your specific oral health issue, restorative dental services can also be used to restore your ability to chew effectively and speak clearly, or to reinforce the structure of a tooth that might otherwise be extracted. These treatments may even help prevent the deterioration of jaw bone that can result from missing teeth.
Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped porcelain cap that covers weak, discoloured, broken, or worn-out teeth. It is designed to enhance a tooth's function and appearance. This dental restoration can also be attached to a bridge, cover a dental implant, or strengthen a tooth that has been treated with a root canal.
Dental Bridges
Dental bridges can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge consists of artificial teeth with a crown affixed to either side. These custom-made restorations have a natural appearance and can help preserve the contour of the jawline and the bite between your upper and lower teeth.
Root Canals
If the inner pulp of a tooth becomes infected, a root canal may be performed to save it. During this procedure, your dentist will remove diseased blood vessels, nerves and other tissues from the interior of the tooth. By removing the decay and bacteria, the infection can be stopped, preventing the need for an extraction.
Full & Partial Dentures
Dentures are artificial teeth used to replace one or more missing teeth in a row or a full jaw of teeth. Dentures can help prevent your remaining teeth from shifting, preserve your facial structure, and maintain your ability to speak and chew. They will be custom-fitted to your mouth and will visually match your existing teeth.
Dental Fillings
Dental fillings, made from tooth-coloured composite material, are used to repair small holes in your teeth that form due to tooth decay. If this decay is not removed and then promptly filled, the issue will continue to spread throughout the tooth, leading to painful oral health conditions and more complex treatment.
Inlays & Onlays
Inlays and onlays are used when a cavity is too large for a standard filling but too small for a full crown. These dental restorations are custom-made and permanently bonded to your teeth. Inlays are used for the areas between the cusps (protruding bumpy parts) of a tooth while an onlay covers at least one cusp.
Periowave™ Gum Therapy
Gum disease can affect the soft tissues of the mouth that support the teeth and, if left untreated, lead to serious oral health issues. We use Periowave lasers to inhibit the growth of bacteria on the gums which can prevent dangerous plaque and tartar buildup to keep your gums healthy.
