What is a Mouth Guard?
Protecting your oral health goes beyond just brushing and flossing. Wearing a custom-fitted mouth guard can help you keep your teeth safe from impact and stress.
A mouth guard is a custom-made tray that fits over your teeth. It can be worn during sports activities to help protect your teeth from trauma, or during sleep to assist in protecting them from the effects of grinding (bruxism) and jaw disorder (TMJ) symptoms.
Your smile is important to us and we want to help you protect it as much as possible. At Midtown Kelowna Dental, the mouth guards we offer are designed to fit perfectly over your teeth to help protect your oral cavity.
Night Mouth Guards
Our dentists recommend night mouth guards for patients who grind their teeth at night or clench their jaws during sleep. If you grind your teeth, a mouth guard can act as a barrier between your top and bottom teeth to help protect them from damage. If you clench your jaw, a mouth guard may help to prevent you from clenching and give you some pain relief.
Sports Mouth Guards
Sports mouth guards are recommended for any sport where your face may come into contact with another person or piece of equipment, like hockey, football, soccer and gymnastics. If you get hit in the face, a mouth guard helps absorb the impact, providing a barrier between your teeth and the soft tissue in and around your mouth to prevent injuries like broken teeth and cut gums.
